This is a bank cheque issued in a selected foreign currency, to a specific payee. 

A demand draft is very safe to utilize, since you will be reimbursed in case the draft is lost or stolen and has not yet been cashed.  It is also quite convenient, since it can be re-purchased by the bank if you do not need the demand draft anymore.
