BBK, Bahrain’s pioneer Retail and Commercial bank, is pleased to announce the appointment of the following women members to its various companies’ boards, Dr. Ghaneya Al-Derazi and Mrs Nour Nael Al Jassim to BBK Board; Mrs Najwa al Ahmed, Ms Batool S. Jaffar and Dr. Aysha Bushagher to the boards of its wholly-owned subsidiaries and affiliate companies, Invita and Global Payment Services (GPS) and CrediMax respectively.
In a statement on this occasion, Mr. Murad Ali Murad, Chairman of BBK confirmed that the presence of 5 women in the Bank’s and its subsidiaries’ boards of directors reflects the keenness of BBK Group to enhance women's representation on their boards of directors, making their contribution more effective. He added that it is vital to give women the opportunity to participate in the decision-making process. He particularly noted that this prominent female presence confirms BBK’s leading role in implementing the directives of the Supreme Council for Women and the Central Bank of Bahrain to ensure gender equality, and to enhance the participation of women in the Bahraini banking sector, especially in high-ranking positions.
Mr. Murad added that BBK will continue moving forward in line with its women empowerment policy, appointing more qualified women cadres to occupy leading positions and encouraging them to participate in decision making in all the different areas of the business.
On his part, Dr. Abdulrahman Ali Saif, BBK Group Chief Executive said that the presence of women in the board of directors of BBK and its wholly-owned subsidiaries and affiliate companies reaffirms BBK’s leading position within private sector related to women’s participation rate equivalent to more than 40% of the total number of employees, at various executive and administrative levels.
“The presence of women in company boards, ie at the top of the institutional pyramid is an added value that enriches performance and company results. We are eager to continue supporting and empowering women; their participation at high levels ensures greater and more diverse perspectives and better understanding of our clients' expectations” added Dr. Saif.
Dr. Ghaneya Al-Derazi holds a doctoral degree from Durham University, U.K., where she won the Best Thesis Award. She also has a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Wales (U.K.) and a Bachelor’s in Finance and Marketing from St. Edward’s University (U.S). With over 20 years' experience in the banking industry, working with reputable banking institutions in Bahrain, Dr. Al-Derazi has gained in-depth experience in many core banking areas, such as corporate banking, commercial banking, and SMEs.
Mrs. Nour Nael Al Jassim, has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance and holds many professional certifications from financial institutions, as well as global asset management institutions in Kuwait and abroad. She has 12 years’ experience in the Investment sector and risk management, holding leading positions in the Kuwait Investment Authority, throughout her career.
With regard to the appointments to the subsidiaries board, they include Assistant General Manager of BBK Human Resources, Mrs. Najwa al Ahmed to Invita, a leading provider of innovative Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Digital Transformation Solutions. Mrs Najwa has a Master’s in Human Resources Management from DePaul and an Executive Master’s in Business Management from Bahrain University. Mrs. Al Ahmed joined BBK 18 years ago and has contributed greatly to the HR function of the Bank.
Ms. Batool S. Jaffar, Executive Senior Manager of Financial Planning & Control Division at BBK was appointed to the Board of Global Payment Services (GPS), a company that specializes in the outsourcing of electronic payment services. With experience that spans more than 17 years in BBK, Ms. Jaffar is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) from the State of Delaware and holds a Master’s in Finance from DePaul University and an Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT) – Indirect Tax Module. Her extensive experience in the field of finance has been critical to the Bank.
Dr. Aysha Bushagher, Chairperson at the Computer Engineering - University of Bahrain has also joined CrediMax Board, BBK’s wholly-owned subsidiary and the leading credit card issuer and acquirer in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Dr. Bushager has a Doctorate of Philosophy and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, from the University of Southampton,UK as well as Masters of Science in E-Business Technology, University of Gloucestershire, UK . She is Board Member in the Technology and Business Society (TBS).
BBK has a history as an advocate for greater gender equality in the workplace and was recognized for its pioneering Women Empowerment Policy by HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ebrahim Al-Khalifa when it received the Bahraini Woman Empowerment Award in recent years. It has since then actively nurtured a workplace where women are encouraged to reach their full potential and hold leading positions. Through the Women Empowerment Committee, chaired by Mr. Hassaan Mohamed Burshaid, BBK Group Chief Human Resources & Administration Officer, the Bank continuously supports and empowers Bahraini women through various means including putting in place high-level policies that enable them to succeed.
