(MENAFN) The Emirates Classification (Tasneef) signed a deal with Dubai Drydocks World to begin classification services to merchant vessels, The National reported.
Ships passing through Dubai or being built or repaired there will be able to get shipping surveys and certificates in order to get insurance.
This service would become the first of the like in the Arabian peninsular. It would also encourage ship owners to sail under the UAE flag which in turn would increase authorised freight.
The service can also help push the shipbuilding and repair companies forward and help raise the country’s national shipping services.
The Dubai Drydocks director general Khamis Abu Ameem said: “Tasneef can become one of the most important classification establishments in a short period of time.”
