(MENAFN) The Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) stated that the number of business licenses issued in the last month of 2012 rose by 6 percent from a year earlier to 1,372, reported Arabian Business.
Issued licenses related to the tourism sector surged by 42 percent, whereas those in the professional sector grew by 10 percent and in the commercial sector went up by 5 percent.
A total of 3,161 licenses were issued for commercial activities, while licenses for professional activities stood at 805.
According to the DED, commercial licenses represented 73 percent of December’s total licenses, followed by professional, accounting for 25 percent and industrial and tourism making up 1 percent, each.
Meanwhile, the number of trade names issued in the month jumped by 14 percent from 2011’s same period to 5,364, also the number of initial approvals climbed by 14 percent to 2,467.
It is worth noting that December’s modified licenses were 5,416, and renewed licenses reached 6,929.
