(MENAFN) Japanese Sumitomo Corporation, Malakoff Corporation, Berhad and Cadagua are getting ready to procure a loan for the funding of a private desalination plant in Muscat named Ghubrah IWP, Times of Oman reported.
The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company handed the project in November last year. Malakoff and Sumitomo own 45 percent each in the Muscat City Desalination Company (MCDC), the project company, while the remaining 10 percent are held by the Spain-based Cadagua.
The desalination plant is estimated to supply the gulf sultanate with a daily 190,000 cubic metres of fresh water for as long as 20 years. The project, capable of supplying 800,000 residents, is seen completed in October 2014.
