(MENAFN) Jordan’s Prime Minister, Abdullah Ensour, stated that the country started receiving Egyptian gas again following frequent disruptions in supply, reported Xinhua News.
Ensour said that the Kingdom will receive 250 million cubic feet of natural gas from Egypt on a daily basis.
Since early 2011, disruptions in gas supply from the Egyptian part as a result of repeated bombings of gas pipelines are expected to cost Jordan around USD4 billion by the end of the current year.
The country’s power stations were forced to utilize more expensive heavy fuel for power generation following the recurring cuts.
It is worth noting that Jordan depends on imports to meet over 96 percent of its energy needs each year.
