(MENAFN) Qatar is planning to open 21 new hotels over the next five years in preparation for the FIFA World Cup 2022, The Peninsula Qatar reported.
According to the daily newspaper, more than half of the new hotels are going to be five-star properties and nine will be four-star.
The Ministry of Business and Trade said some 45,000 additional hotel rooms will be introduced by 2017 to reach FIFA’s projected capacity requirement of 60,000 rooms.
Additional 50 hotels are being planned before 2020, of which 80-85 percent will be rated either four or five-star.
Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) is planning to invest USD17 billion to improve tourism related infrastructure over the next five years.
