(MENAFN) The UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced that du managed to increase its share of the country’s mobile phone market to around 49 percent at the end of last year, reported Emirates 24/7.
The TRA said that du is narrowing the market gap with government-controlled Etisalat, whose share of the UAE’s mobile market stood at about 51 percent in the period.
The authority said that the number of du mobile phone subscribers reached over 6.5 million at the end of 2012, while Etisalat’s was at nearly 7 million.
In the year, the UAE added 2 million new GSM subscribers, of which almost 1.2 million joined du.
It is worth noting that at the end of last year, the total number of mobile phone users in the country hit 13.77 million.
