(MENAFN) Visa Inc. announced that during the 2013 Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), foreigners spent more than USD589 million on their Visa cards, up by 19 percent from 2012, reported Emirates 24/7.
The world’s largest retail electronic payments networks and a lead sponsor of the shopping event added that the main spenders were Russians, who spent 34 percent more in 2013 from 2012, to more than USD82 million.
Second came Saudis, who increased their spending by 26 percent to USD66 million, while shoppers from the UK came third, with their spending during DSF reaching USD53 million.
As for merchant categories, other retail spending topped the list, with over USD200 million spent during the period, followed by lodging (hotels and apartments) with more than USD138 million; whereas ATM withdrawal came in at USD92 million, other travel and entertainment at USD41 million and department stores at USD22 million.
