Yemen LNG’s pipeline fixed, more security set

22 Nov 2012

(MENAFN) Yemen’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipeline that was blown in late October was repaired, Reuters reported, citing an official at the oil ministry.

Yemen LNG’s pipelines, which feed the country’s LNG export terminal in Balhaf, have been sabotaged several times since anti-government protests last year created a power vacuum which armed groups have exploited.

Yemen LNG, which is operated by France’s Total, was unavailable to comment on whether the terminal had resumed exports of super-cooled gas.

Residents in the area said that security had been stepped up with tanks deployed along parts of the pipeline that supplies gas from fields inland to the USD4.5-billion plant on the coast.

The Balhaf facility, which opened in 2009, has the capacity to supply up to 6.7 million tonnes and delivers LNG, gas-cooled to liquid for export by ship, under long-term contracts to GDF Suez, Total and Korea Gas Corp.
