25 Mar 2012

(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi-based Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat) is preparing for its second satellite Y1B launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, Arabian Business reported.

The sat-telecom operator said that on arrival in Kazakhstan, the Y1B satellite, which was transported from EADS Astrium facilities in Toulouse, France, will receive additional testing before it is moved to its final launch position.

The Y1B is scheduled to be launched by an ILS Proton Breeze M vehicle next month, it added.

Yahsat explained that the Y1B weighs more than six tonnes, features a spacecraft power of 14kW and has a 15-year designed lifetime and is equipped with a commercial multi-beam payload in Ka-band, which will be used to provide a variety of government and commercial applications, including YahClick, a new affordable satellite broadband service.

Yahsat successfully launched its first satellite, Y1A, in April last year, currently in geostationary orbit by commercial launch services provider Arianespace.
