(MENAFN) Algeria’s grain imports valued 4.39mn tons in the Jan-April period of this year, down from 9.5 percent from the same period a year earlier.
Additionally, the country will try to cut its import bill in an attempt to offset a fall in world crude oil prices, which reduced state incomes.
On the other hand, soft wheat imports increased to 2.17mn tons from 2.12mn tons, while durum wheat trades were down at 665,386 tons from 681,159.
Meanwhile, import volumes dropped to 324,520 tons from 370,581 tons, whereas maize purchases declined to 1.23mn tons from 1.67mn tons in the cited period of 2015.
