(MENAFN) France?s Areva said that it has won a major order worth $112.5 million for supply of gas-insulated substation (GIS) to Transco, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA), Gulf News reported.
Under the contract, Areva?s Transmission and Distribution division (T&D) will deliver a 400/132 kV GIS substation to the Transco plant in Ajman which will strengthen power supply for the fast-growing Northern Emirates region.
The substation will be located in Ajman, where population is expected to jump from 250,000 in 2010 to 2.2 million in 2030, said a top official, citing estimates from the UAE Ministry of Economy.
The substation solution also includes the delivery of four power transformers, four shunt reactors, a digital control system and a telecommunications system along with protection relays.
