(MENAFN) The Senior Vice President for Safety, Operations and Infrastructure at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Gunther Matschnigg, said that the aircraft accident rate in the MENA region decreased to 0.72 accidents per 1 million flights in 2010, reported Gulf News.
Matschnigg said that the aviation accident rate in the region was 3.32 in 2009. In 2010, the region witnessed only 1 accident which involved a regional airplane.
Matschnigg added that IATA aims to reduce the aviation accident rate and losses in Dubai to zero.
The reasons behind the decrease in accident rate are IATA’s safety conditions laid down for its 234 members according to the IATA Operational Safety Audit.
