(MENAFN) Bahrain International Airport (BIA) said that it is planning a major renovation for the airport within the next five years, which will include upgrading its facilities and expanding its passenger capacity through a program to modernize the airport, Gulf Daily News reported.
BIA said that the estimated cost of the upgrade is around USD2 billion, with the project expected to result in boosting its capacity to 13.5 million passengers a year and increase its cargo traffic.
“This project is in line with our ongoing efforts to elevate Bahrain’s aviation and logistics capabilities as the aviation and logistics industry is getting bigger due to massive investments in airports expansion and new developments that are needed to accommodate the growth in air traffic in the region,” BAC chief executive said.
