(MENAFN) President of Bahrain’s Information Affairs Authority, Fawaz Al Khalifa, announced that the Kingdom gained the necessary approvals to host a Formula 1 race in the current season, reported Arabian Business.
The statement came as Al Khalifa tweeted congratulating Bahrainis and saying that Bahrain would host the race. This implies securing the approval of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the entity that runs the race.
The FIA later confirmed that the Indian Grand Prix would be moved from October to a season-ending December slot to allow Bahrain to be reinstated to the season calendar.
It is worth noting that the race was delayed in Bahrain due to the strong protests that took over the country in 2011, which made the FIA consider the safety of conducting the race in Bahrain as scheduled.
