​BBK, Bahrain’s pioneer in retail and commercial banking, has achieved ISO 27001: 2013 for its Information Security Management System (ISMS). The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the world’s largest developer of voluntary International Standards, and ISO 27001 is the international standards describing best practices for an ISMS.

The certification process involved a rigorous audit, which was conducted by Bureau Veritas on all of the bank’s Information Security Management. Lead auditors from Bureau Veritas performed detailed evaluation and assessment across the bank against the criteria set out by the ISO 27001:2013   standard. Established in 1828, Bureau Veritas is a global leader in Testing, Inspection and Certification services, with operations in more than 140 countries.

BBK’s Chief Executive, Abdukarim Bucheery, received the ISO 27001:2013 certificate from the Bureau Veritas Chief Executive for Bahrain, Mr. Zulfiqar Haider, at an official ceremony held at BBK headquarters on November 18th 2015. The ceremony was also attended from BBK by Dr. Jamal Hijres General Manager Shared Services and Jamal Al Sabbagh, Assistant General Manager – Information Technology. Representatives from the various teams within the bank that contributed towards the achievement of this key certification were also present.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Bucheery said: “The fact that BBK has received the ISO 27001:2013 certification which confirms that we are operating in strict accordance with international standards. This means that BBK customers, and our regulator, can have considerable confidence in the quality of the bank’s IT and IT security, as well as in our ability to manage our data and our IT assets. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the employees at BBK who have made it possible for us to receive this very vital certification from Bureau Veritas and provided a competitive edge in the market.”
