Bomb explosion hits Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline

07 Aug 2012

(MENAFN) The Turkish Ministry of Energy stated that a pipeline blast stopped oil flow from Iraq’s Kirkuk to Turkey’s Ceyhan, reported Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

The ministry said that the bomb explosion hit the 970-kilometer Kirkuk-Ceyhan Oil Pipeline in Mardin province, south Turkey, near the country’s Syrian borders.

The ministry, which added that the explosion is an act of sabotage, accused the fighters of the separatist Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) of carrying out the blast.

In late June, the banned PKK, which has launched a separatist war against the Turkish Republic since 1984, targeted the pipeline.

It is worth mentioning that the technical teams will take at least 10 days to repair the damage from the blast, the second of its kind in less than 20 days and the third within 2 months.
