(MENAFN) BP Oman announced it has awarded two long-term drilling contracts for the Khazzan project, both valued at more than USD730 million, Times of Oman reported.
The first contract was awarded to KCA Deutag , which is valued at around USD400 million, for the construction and operation of five new build land rigs for Khazzan, which are being assembled in Nizwa to help maximize employment opportunities in Oman.
Oman’s Abraj Energy Service, which received the second contract valued more than USD330 million, is going to supply three drilling rigs for the full field development of the Khazzan project.
BP Oman has been actively awarding contracts in the Khazzan project development, which is set to become the first phase in the development of one of the Middle East region’s largest tight gas plays, ever since the company got the necessary approvals of the company to ensure that the project meets its deadlines, including several contracts valued around USD90 million to local Omani companies for civil works, including well pads and in-field roads.
“We are pleased to announce these contracts which continue to progress our development of the gas resources at Block 61. Abraj Energy Service and KCA Deutag will play important roles in the massive drilling programme ahead. The selection of Abraj Energy demonstrates once again BP’s commitment to In Country Value,” BP Oman GM said.
