(MENAFN) Brazilian airline Gol Linhas Aereas denied reports that its was in talks with Qatar Airways over a possible acquisition deal, Reuters reported.
Brazilian news magazine Veja reported earlier that Gol’s management met last week with executives from fast-growing Qatar Airways.
The magazine said Qatar Airways is looking to take acquire Gol in the same fashion as Chile’s LAN Airlines with Brazil’s No. 1 carrier TAM, forming giant regional giant LATAM Airlines.
A spokeswoman for Gol denied the contents of the Veja report, which said discussions of an investment in the struggling Brazilian airline were still in early phases.
In December 2011, Delta Air Lines Inc bought a 3 percent stake in Gol and appointed a representative to the Brazilian carrier’s board of directors. Delta said it has no plans to increase stake in the airline.
