(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) CEO, Martijn Van De Linde, said that container traffic at Mina Zayed port surged 47 percent in 2011 from a year earlier to 767,713 TEUs (twenty foot equivalent container units), reported Gulf News.
De Linde added that container volumes at the port more than tripled from 250,000 TEU in 2006 to over 767,000 TEU in 2011.
He also said that at the current time, ADT is preparing for the opening of the new container terminal at Khalifa Port, which would be the first semi-automated container terminal in the region.
It is worth noting that ADT’s cruise segment recorded an 11 percent growth compared with 2010, with nearly 160,000 cruise passengers arriving at Mina Zayed.
