Dhofar’s power demand up 12 pct in 2013

22 Apr 2014

(MENAFN) Records of 2013 show an increase of 10 percent in electricity consumers in the Omani region of Dhofar, hitting 80,000, while the overall demand increased 12 percent to 420 megawatt, Times of Oman reported.

Chief executive officer of Dhofar Power Company said that this development in energy consumption is against 3 percent growth in developed countries and eight percent growth in main inter-connected system (MIS).

In a bid to meet this kind of growth in demand, Dhofar Power Company is launching an energy conservation campaign with the slogan ‘our energy is wealth and rationalization is culture’, he said.

“Our region (Dhofar) has probably the highest growth in energy consumption. We are trying to contain it by one or two per cent by creating awareness on energy conservation among the general public,” he elaborated.
