(MENAFN) Telecom operator (du) agreed on a deal regarding network sharing to increase competition in broadband, TV, and landline services in the UAE, the deal should be in effect by the end of 2015, Emirates 247 reported.
The Emirati operator has been negotiating with highly competitor Etisalat since 2009, despite the fact that federal-run Emirates Investment Authority is the greatest shareholder in both operators.
Both companies include services like fixed-line phone, broadband and TV packages in different districts, but du is mostly limited to Dubai’s newest areas.
Network sharing is set to allow sturdy competition between the two firms in same areas. ‘It’s just a matter of a couple of months I guess at the maximum. The agreement is in place, the legality has been sorted out.’ Du’s chairman said.
