(MENAFN) Dubai International Airport’s chief executive, Paul Griffiths, said that by the end of 2011, passenger volumes at the airport would be expected to top 51 million, reported Khaleej Times.
Griffiths added that last month, almost 3.97 million passengers passed through the airport, the world’s fourth busiest airport for international passenger traffic, up from 3.65 million passengers in May last year.
He also said that during the next four years, the airport would be projected to surpass Heathrow airport and become number one in passenger volumes, which would go beyond 75 million by the year 2015.
It is worth noting that the year-to-date traffic stood at 20.5 million, an increase of 8.6 percent over the same period last year, whereas aircraft movements totaled 26,969 in May, up 4.6 percent from 25,790 recorded during the same month in 2010.
