(MENAFN) BAA Airports’ director of media relations, Simon Baugh, stated that by the end of the decade, Dubai International airport is forecasted to overtake London’s Heathrow and become the world’s third busiest international airport, reported Khaleej Times.
Baugh said that the airport plans to increase passenger capacity to 98 million by 2020, whereas Heathrow forecasts a passenger capacity of 90 million by that time.
He added that there are over 150 carriers operating out of Dubai International, serving 200 destinations, while Heathrow has 90 airlines, serving 180 destinations.
It is worth noting that both airports are spending billions of dollars on expansion; with Dubai Airports planning to invest USD7.8 billion to increase annual capacity to 90 million passengers by 2018, compared with the current 60 million passengers a year.
