(MENAFN) UAE’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reported a total of 346.5 million passengers used public transport in Dubai last year, a 4.3 percent increase form 332 million in 2010, Arabian Business reported.
The report also showed that the number of daily users of Dubai’s public transport system reached an average of 963,000 compared to 922,000 in 2010.
Mattar Al Tayer, chairman and executive director of RTA said that the regulator was working upgrading the mass transit systems to make them the ideal choice of people in the Emirate and reducing the use of private vehicles from 13 percent in 2006 to 30 percent in 2030.
He added that by the middle of last year, the usage rate had jumped to 19 percent, up form percent from 2010.
RTA also reported that Dubai Metro had lifted more than 69 million passengers in 2011, 107.4 million people used public buses, 14 million passengers used marine transit modes and 62.36 million 155.9 million passengers used Taxis.
