(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi’s power utility is currently constructing a 350 megawatt mega solar plant, according to the State-owned Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (Adwea).
Accordingly, this ambitious scheme is considered to be first renewable project and part of a plan to produce seven percent of the emirates’ power from renewables by 2020.
Abu Dhabi’s green energy firm Masdar has built some renewable energy plants, but this will be Adwea’s 1st foray past its 11 gas-fired, independent water and power projects (IWPPs).
“Adwea has just embarked on the process to select a developer for the solar photovoltaic project, which is aimed to be finalized by the middle of next year,” said Adwea’s Spokesman.
