(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi flag carrier Etihad Airways has inked a new codeshare agreement with Air France-KLM, as the Gulf airline seeks to maximize its reach throughout the world to compete with larger regional rivals Qatar Airways and Emirates, Arabian Business reported.
The agreement will be effective on October 28 and will see both airlines offer joint codes on destinations in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.
Germany’s Air Berlin, in which Etihad owns a 29.21 percent shareholding, also announced a new codeshare agreement with Air France.
Etihad Airways, which already has 38 codeshares active, reported a 19 percent increase in third-quarter revenue to USD1.3 billion, thanks to a 51 percent increase in income from its codeshare and airline partners.
