(MENAFN) Etihad Rail chief executive, Richard Bowker, stated that the company diverted its dedicated Abu Dhabi-Dubai passenger link plans to freight lines, reported The National.
Bowker also said that the original 1,500 km network had included a direct route for passenger trains between the country’s two largest metropolitan areas, Abu Dhabi and Dubai, but the company’s focus changed to a 1,200 km mixed freight and passenger network.
The chief executive added that the construction of the network would span 7 years starting in 2012, and would be done in three phases across the UAE.
It is worth noting that Etihad Rail is a UAE-based railway enterprise founded in 2010 and was formerly know as Union Railway.
