(MENAFN) Etihad Rail, operator of the UAE’s national railway network, has issued a tender for phase two of the rail network development, Arabian Business reported.
The company explained that the tender consists of three contracts covering the design and build of new lines, including the lines between Ruwais and Ghweifat (137km), Liwa Junction and Al Ain (190km) and the railway integration and systems contract.
Etihad Rail added that it was set to issue the remaining stage two tenders over the next few months.
Phase two of the national rail network will further connect industrial and urban areas, and will see the railway link with the planned GCC network; connecting with Saudi Arabia at Ghweifat and Oman at Al Ain.
According to the firm, phase two construction works are scheduled to begin early next year, following the award of tendered contracts.
