(MENAFN) Etihad Rail’s chairman, Mattar Al Tayer, said that the work on the first phase of the new railway in the Western Region would start this year, reported Gulf News.
Al Tayer said that that new project, which would include a railway at the length of 64 kilometers, would link the Shah, Habshan and Al Ruwais areas.
Al Tayer also said that the company had launched a tender in March and selected Adnoc, which would use the network to transport sulphur from the area of extraction in Shah and Habshan to Al Ruwais, the point were it will be exported.
Al Tayer added that necessary technical and engineering studies were conducted and done for the project and thus, the blue prints for the first phase are ready.
