(MENAFN) Ali Amiri, the executive vice president of Etisalat’s carrier and wholesale services division, said that the UAE’s internet connection would be enhanced after a main submarine telecommunications cable was switched on, reported The National.
Amiri explained that a 13,000 kilometer cable called the India-Middle East-western Europe (I-ME-WE) cable, was activated earlier this month and this would raise the internet capacity of the UAE.
Amiri also announced earlier this month that Etisalat joined a consortium of nine members for investing five hundred million dollars in constructing another huge regional submarine fibre-optic cable network.
Amiri added that the I-ME-WE cable would have the design capacity of 3.84 terabits a second. The boost in broadband connectivity comes within a year from the damage of a cable in the Mediterranean Sea slowing internet speed for residents and businesses all over the UAE.
