(MENAFN) Chief Executive Officer of the GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA), Adnan Al Mohaisen, said that electricity from the Gulf power grid could be shared with Europe to help the continent cope with freezing winters, Gulf Daily News reported.
Afterwards, the GCC would then want to share that spare capacity with the West, he said.
Speaking at the GCCIA meeting, Al Mohaisen explained that the Gulf region only needs the spare power during the hot summer months and this power would remain idle in winter.
Al Mohaisen said that the power would be transferred from country to country to eventually reach Europe, where there are shortages in some parts of the continent in winter days.
He, however, pointed out this is only a proposal as yet but the GCC authority would want to discuss it with European counterparts and take the proposal further.
