(MENAFN) The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) on commercial and economic cooperation, Khaleej Times reported.
The document was signed by GCC Secretary-General Abdulrahman Al-Atiyyah and Comesa Secretary-General Sindiso Ngwenya in the presence of Djiboutian Minister of Commerce, Industry and Artisans Rifki Abdoulkader Bamakhrama Zimbabwean Minister of Industry and Commerce Welshman Ncube as well as several senior officials of the two organizations.
Al-Atiyyah hailed the steady growth of the friendly ties between the two regional blocs in all fields, which he said is conducive to the creating investment-attractive atmospheres.
With a total population of 430 million people and a total area of 12 million square kilometers, 19-member COMESA aims to be a fully integrated, internationally competitive regional economic community with high standards of living for all its nations with a view to merging into an African economic community.
