(MENAFN) Jordan’s Energy Minister, Khalid Touqan, said that the Iranian government offered to provide Jordan with natural gas, reported Arab News.
Touqan added that the offer would be a possible option for the country since Jordan encountered disruption in natural gas supplies that resulted from the constant cut off of Egyptian supplies as a result of sabotaging the gas pipeline between the two countries.
He also said that the repeated rupture of Egyptian gas supplies to Jordan prompted the authorities to use heavy fuel for the generation of electricity that implied higher costs and aggravated the country’s public budget deficit.
It is worth noting that the Iranian gas can be exported to Jordan through the pipelines that supply both Iraq and Turkey with Iranian gas.
