BBK, Bahrain’s pioneer in retail and commercial banking, has achieved ISO 27001 & ISO 22301 certification for its Information Security Management System (ISMS) and Business Continuity Management System (BCMS). The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the world’s largest developer of voluntary International Standards, and ISO 27001 & ISO 22301 are the international standards describing best practices for an ISMS and BCMS.
Certification process involved a rigorous audit, which was conducted by Bureau Veritas on all of the bank’s Information Security Management and Business Continuity Management Systems. Lead auditors from Bureau Veritas performed detailed evaluation and assessment across the bank against the criteria set out by the ISO 27001 & ISO 22301 standards. Established in 1828, Bureau Veritas is a global leader in Testing, Inspection and Certification services, with operations in more than 140 countries. BBK’s Chief Executive, Abdul Karim Bucheery, received the ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 certificate from the Bureau Veritas Chief Executive for Bahrain, Mr. Zulfiqar Haider, at an official ceremony held at BBK headquarters on September 19th, 2013. The ceremony was also attended from BBK by Jamal Al Sabbagh, Assistant General Manager – Information Technology and Hassaan Burshaid, Assistant General Manager – Human Resources and Administration and by Mr. Samir Ahmed -Certification Manager, from Bureau Veritas Bahrain). Representatives from the various teams within the Bank that contributed towards the achievement of these key certifications, were also present. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Bucheery said: “The fact that BBK has received the ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 certification confirms that we are operating in strict accordance with international standards. This means that BBK customers, and our regulator, can have considerable confidence in the quality of the bank’s IT,IT security and Business Continuity Management System, as well as in our ability to manage our data and our IT assets. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the employees at BBK who have made it possible for us to receive two very vital certifications from Bureau Veritas and provided a competitive edge in the market.” |
