(MENAFN) Eni’s Exploration & Production Director General, Claudio De Scalzi, said that in order to increase Italy’s gas supplies, the Italian oil firm and Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) started tests on the Greenstream pipeline to resume the transfer of Libya’s gas to Italy, reported Arab News.
De Scalzi added that the first tests, launched after an 8 months-suspension due to the civil war in Libya, would involve the daily flow of 3 million cubic meters of gas produced by the Wafa field, moreover, the company would aim to start gas exports via the pipeline this month.
He also said that his country increased its gas imports from Russia and northern Europe to compensate the shortage in Libyan supplies, boosting Italy’s gas reserves to about 87 percent of capacity.
It is worth noting that the 520km pipeline has a capacity of 8 billion cubic meters, and runs from Mellitah in Libya to Gela on Sicily.
