Jabal Omar plans to open 10 hotels in Makkah in 2013

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia’s largest developer Jabal Omar Development Company unveiled plans to bring up to ten hotel towers online in Makkah in 2013, Bloomberg reported.

Executive General Director Sameer Al Quraishi said that the company, established to invest USD3.2 billion in Makkah, is developing 2.2 million sqm of land near the Grand Mosque.

He added that the site was designed to include 38 hotel towers and the country’s largest shopping mall.

Hotel operators Marriott International, Hyatt Hotels, Hilton Hotels and Sheraton will manage properties on the development, said Al Quraishi.

Mecca receives over 10 million visitors throughout the year and about 3 million pilgrims in the Hajj season, the Islamic journey every able-bodied Muslim is obligated to make.

Al Quraishi said that the USD5.3 billion project will be completed in five years, and will host 38 hotels, managed by 28 companies and will add 13,500 rooms to Makkah’s hospitality industry once complete in five years.
