(MENAFN) Japan’s Natural Resources and Energy Agency stated that in June, the country’s imports of Kuwaiti crude oil jumped 16.1 percent from a year ago, reported Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

The agency said that a total of 6.29 million barrels, or 210,000 barrels per day (bpd) were exported from Kuwait to Japan during the month.

The Gulf emirate supplied Japan with 6.5 percent of its total crude imports, keeping its position as the fourth-biggest oil supplier to the Asian country, up from 5.9 percent in 2011’s same period.

Saudi was Japan’s largest oil provider, with its oil exports growing 7.1 percent from 2011 to 985,000 bpd, whereas the UAE came second, with 650,000 bpd.

It is worth noting that Japan’s oil imports from the Middle East stood at 2.72 million bpd, and represented 84.2 percent of the country’s total oil imports, a decline of 1.9 percentage points from 2011.
