(MENAFN) The Jordanian Ministry of Tourism said that the kingdom’s tourism revenues rose by 39 percent in the first quarter of 2010 compared with the same period of 2009, The Jordan Times reported
According to figures issued by the ministry, revenues generated by the sector in the first three months of the year stood at $705 million, up from nearly $505 million in the same period of 2009,.
The number of visitors to Jordan also witnessed a 20.6 percent growth in the January-March period, when over 1.53 million tourists visited the kingdom, compared to 1.21 million in the first three months of last year.
The ministry figures showed that Mount Nebo witnessed the highest growth in visitors, with an 88 percent rise. Some 99,798 tourists visited the site in the January-March period compared to 53,082 in the first quarter of 2009.
Petra witnessed the highest number of overall visitors, reaching 219,544 during the mentioned period, followed by Mount Nebo (99,798) and Jerash (85,302).
