(MENAFN) The Lebanese Agriculture Minister, Hussein Hajj Hassan, said that the 2011 ministry budget provides additional funding for soft loans and that donations to farmers would be terminated after they showed no success in the past, reported the Daily Star.
The minister added that the most efficient way for decreasing farming costs is by raising productivity of the agricultural areas and this is the reason why loans are provided.
The minister also said that apple production, of which Lebanon exports 120,000 tons and thus is a huge player in the country’s exports in terms of farming, needs to be provided with more coordination between the ministry, the private sector as well as farmers and exporters in order to improve the quality of apple production in the country.
