(MENAFN) A report issued by Ericsson showed that mobile penetration rates in the Middle East are at 96 percent compared to a global average of 82 percent, Arabian Business reported.
The report also unveiled three percent growth to 244 million in the number of new connections in the Middle East in the third quarter.
Anders Lindblad, head of Ericsson in the MENA region explained that the huge growth witnessed in the region was driven by implementing new technologies a culture of connectivity.
The region saw 7.7 million new mobile subscriptions in the third quarter, affirming more growth in mobile penetration than North America and Western Europe combined in the period, according to Ericsson.
The report also said that current global mobile subscriptions total around 5.8 billion, with the actual number of subscribers estimated to be around 3.9 billion, since many subscribers have several subscriptions.
