(MENAFN) The first phase of the New Doha International Airport (NDIA) plans to employ 8,000 staff for its opening projected opening later this year, Arabian Business reported.
CEO Akbar Al Baker, who is also CEO of Qatar Airways, said that the upgraded facility has already added 3,000 staff on its payroll and is in the process of recruiting a further 5,000 in time for the opening.
NDIA launched construction works for the USD14.5 billion in 2004, aimed at replacing the old airport and help accommodate the rapid growth seen in passenger and cargo traffic in recent years.
NDIA is poised to host 80 contact gates, 25,000 sqm of retail space and lounges, in addition to multi-story short-term and long-term parking facilities.
The first phase will open on December 12 this year and is expected to handle 24 million passengers annually.
