(MENAFN) Oman’s gypsum exports registered an increase during the January-September period of this year, reaching 3.38 million tons compared with 1.99 million tons registered in 2013, QNA reported.
Exports of the mineral are expected to exceed 4.50 million tons before the end of 2014, with India being the importer of Omani gypsum due to an increase in the country’s cement industry, which is growing at an annual rate of 8 to 10 percent.
India’s total cement production capacity reaches 350 million tons per annum, with this capacity expected to nearly triple to 950 million tons per year by 2027 due to the growth that is happening in India’s infrastructure sector.
