(MENAFN) International tourism industry has been registering notable increase since the middle of last century assuming a vital role in the socio-economic development.
Moreover, in 2014 tourism accounted for 9 percent of the global gross domestic product (GDP) and produced 11 percent of job chances in 2015.
In addition, the Oman Tourism Plan for 2016-2040 has been finished and approved by the Council of Ministers and it focuses on the developments in the tourism sector.
Number of tourist arrivals in Oman increased by 17.7 percent from 2,098,255 in 2014 to 2,470,760 in 2015, while cruise ship tourism logged 147,858 tourists in 2015.
