(MENAFN) Ali Saleh Awadh Alhadid, Omantel general manager for corporate sales, said that the company and the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) signed an agreement whereby Omantel would provide a new advanced system along with technical consultation for the launch of a new ATM network called OmanNet, reported Times of Oman.
Alhadid said that the new system would replace the current Shamel and Al Watani networks with a single network that would be powered by Omantel and controlled by the CBO.
Alhadid also said that Omantel would use a technology called multi-protocol switching (MPLS). MPLS is already a leading technology in the Sultanate in the banking sector and other major corporate organizations. He added that Omantel is already utilizing this technology, making Omantel a major provider of technology solutions to the banking and financial services sector in Oman.
