(MENAFN) Dubai Airports’ chief executive, Paul Griffiths, said that commercial passenger operations at Dubai World Central airport may start in 2013, reported The National.
Griffiths added that although cargo operations at the airport began in the summer of 2010, however, passenger operations were delayed since the company wanted to focus on the expansion of Dubai International Airport.
He also said that the emirate’s newest airport would play a key role in providing the capacity needed for the projected growth, adding that it would eventually handle 160 million passengers.
It is worth noting that the Dubai World Central airport will become home to Emirates Airline’s operations.
