(MENAFN) Public-private partnerships (PPPs) can develop the UAE’s wastewater network and prevent than USD 0.27bn of treated wastewater being discharged into the sea.
Accordingly, industries across UAE use almost 20mn cubic meters of desalinated water yearly at a cost of USD 65.3mn, while a further 460mn cubic meters drawn from priceless groundwater resources.
The production and delivery of wastewater through the nation was too “disjointed”, with each emirate depending on its own network of unconnected treatment plants.
In addition, this was one of the first PPPs in the area that involved real commercial risk for the partners, as its client was not the government but the 100,000 or so households were linked to the network.
