18 Sep 2012

(MENAFN) Qatar Airways’ chief executive, Akbar al-Baker, stated that during the last financial year, ended March, the carrier’s profit on an EBITDA level (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) surged 47 percent from a year earlier, reported Arabian Business.

Nevertheless, on a net level, the company incurred a small loss, due to high oil prices.

He said that during the mentioned period, 14.3 million passengers flied via the airline’s planes, adding that in the current financial year, the number is forecasted to grow to 17 million.

It is worth noting that the opening of the first phase of Qatar’s USD11 billion new airport will be postponed until June 2013, instead of December 2012, according to al-Baker, who added that the delay occurred as a contractor was dropped from the project.
