(MENAFN) Qatar Football Association issued a formal statement denying that it paid bribes to two FIFA officials in order to win the tender for hosting the 2022 World Cup, reported Arabian Business.
The statement came after a UK-based newspaper submitted what they called evidence to the British Parliamentary showing that Issa Hayatou of Cameroon and Jacques Anouma of the Ivory Coast were allegedly paid USD1.5 million to vote for Qatar,
The Qatar Football Association added that what was submitted as evidence in this case was unreliable. The association also said that the claims were serious and baseless.
The association added that it would cooperate with any investigation FIFA finds necessary.
